Plan Of Work

On the 3rd of December I will plan my photos which I will use for the magazine and I will then be taking the photos on the 10th of December and the 28th of January. Over the Christmas holiday I will also take photos which I will use outside school. And then after that I will be doing my mock exams. On the 22nd of January to the 29th I will work on my front cover and then on the 4th of February until the 11th after this from the on the 14th to the 21st of February I will work on my double page spread. From then on I will go over my pages and finalise them making sure they are the best they can be. As well as doing this I will also go over analysis’s which I have done and improve my work so I achieve the best possible grade.

now that I have completed a survey and received responses I can get valuable information on how I should style my magazine. After seeing what people like in a magazine I have realised who I should aim my audience at and which particular style of  rock music I should mainly talk about. I have chosen the name of my magazine to be distortion as it was the idea name with the most votes in my survey. I will also use one main image as the front cover of my magazine as this is what people in my audience believe to be the most professional look for a magazine.

I also now know how I should construct my double page spread and what kind of layout I should use as well as what I should include in the article of the double page spread.

I think this is very useful way of getting the information of what to include in my magazine. This information gives me a real audience and shows me their views of what to include in the magazine. Some of the answers given by people who took part in the survey contradict each other however I shall ignore these as I can't go with all the options and I should go with the majority of the peoples views.

Production log

Today I designed my survey, I made it with closed questions and gave multiple choise options to the people who took part in my survey. this way I could get the opinion of others when they answered the questions but als at the same time they would use the options I geve them so there would not be people writing things which I completely disagree with.

Dictionary definition of a mood board: 'An arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to evoke or project a particular style or concept' My mood board was inspired by rock music which is my chosen genre, it has pictures inspired by rock music and pictures of musicians. the colour is dark and gloomy. There is a lot of black which is a colour used in a lot of rock magazines and a colour associated with the genre. The mood board will also inspire me when I am making my magazine pages.

This music video contains a band playing a long with another story line to the magazine. the setting is very dark and gloomy which is typical of a music magazine although the story line is fairly comical as it includes teddy bares which contradict the dark theme. This is the type of  theme I am planning to use for my magazine.

This music video also features a band playing. There is a dark theme running throughout the video and it gives a story line. There are a lot of different angels of the band when they play live but the main one features the main artist facing the camera. The artists wear clothes which could be smart although they are dressed to look slightly rough. most of the costumes are dark which is something I will have to consider for my magazine.

These are some of the music videos that inspired my magazine and they feature some of the themes I hope to add to my magazine. They are very typical of alternative rock and the kind of songs and bands which would be featured in the magazine.

I found choosing my genre fairly easy, rock music is the type I mostly listen to and it is also the genre which I am most familiar with so I knew out of all the genres, rock would be the one I specialised in and was most likely to get the best mark in. Using this genre was also helpful because I enjoy looking at rock magazines so I believe this genre and looking at other magazines in this genre will inspire me to do well. I also found the work I did in this lesson when I looked at the genres the most enjoyable and I think that will help me get through all the work and provide me with a greater work ethic.

Through designing and creating a magazine I have realsied the effort and time which must go into creating a real magazine. Seeing this has given me are lage amount of respect for the people who design and create magazines, I understand the amount of work, time and effort people must put into making these look as good and as professional as they do. I have also realised how hard it is to make a magazine look prefessional and the skill and time which needs to be put in to do this. Looking at other magazines has not only made me realise the wrok I will put in but has also shown me what I will need to spend a lot of time and do lots of planning to make sure I get the most professional looking magazine I could possibly achieve.

I am happy with this contents page I think the layout of the pictures on one side and the text on the other is good wit the contents page at the top however I also believe that it would have been better if I had used a different colour scheme as the black and yellow which I used made it seem unprofessional. I think that overall it was the a good contents page to practice with however I think I wasn't able to spend enough time on it to make it as good as I possilby could. I think the pictures I chose were alright although they could have been better if I was given the opertunity to bring in props.

I like the fonts which I used in the magazine front cover and in was very happy with picture I used in the corner of the magazine of the boy who was playing table tennis as i think it works really well. the fonts I used and the layout was inspired by other pictures which I saw on the internet of other school magazines which other people had made. I was also pleased with effects I used on the font on the magazine as without them the magazine would look very unprofessional and I think if I had used them in the contents page it would have really improved it. One if the problems I have with the front page is that the model in the main image is not looking directly at the camera which is not usually seen in magazines and as his face cant be seen this makes the magazine front cover look fairly unprofessional.

I am starting to begin my creative journey, I expect that creating the magazine will take some time to do and I will need to do a lot of planning for the front cover, contents page and double page spread of my magazine. I also expect I will need to do a lot of work as well as at school. In the task I will need to do a lot of research to make sure I a preofessional looking magazine which would appeal to my chosen taget audience.

I think this is a good design for a picture although when I make my real school magazine I don't think I'll make something like this. the angle which is used would be extremely hard to take and also the picture shows the ball going into the goal which would be a very hard image to create and would take a long time to get the perfect shot. other than that I think the writing at the side of the magazine would be good to use as it talks about other things which will get people interested and buy the magazine.

This front cover isn't as good in some ways. It doesn't include the action in the picture like the previous one although the photo would be much easier to take. I could talk about the school and results taking a more academic view point in the magazine which some parents may find interesting although students would probably prefer the football magazine and something which interests them. To get students to buy it I will also have to include some other things to make it seem just as interesting. I am also considering to make the magazine about the music in the school. I think this would attract the interest of both pupils and parents.

This could be used on the contents page. It would work with other pictures around it and there could be information about the competitions between different forms.

I think this is a very good picture which should go on the contents page. It shows pupils working and I think this would be very good for the magazine as people would want to know about the education in the school.

 

This picture could be used in the contents page and could be used on the contents page to talk about the music which is going on in the school.

I think this would be a very good main picture for the main image on the front cover of my magazine. I will focus the magazine on the music aspect of the school which this picture will show very well.

I think this picture would be good on the contents page because I could use it to show what sports the school has which i will mention in the contents page.

I am going to use this on either my front cover or my contents page. I think it would work well as a main picture but also as a picture at the side on a contents page.

I think this picture would be good at the top of either my front cover or my contents page, i think it would be a good idea to put it at the front as it welcomes the audience into the school magazine.

I could use the boy in this and put it at the bottom of my front cover so I have more than one picture on my front cover to use to talk about the table tennis team.

Today was the second day that I took pictures, I have realised that it is hard to get perfect pictures which will go well on the cover of a magazine. I have decided to go into classes and take pictuires of the children doing their work which will be good on the magazine however in order to not distract them from their class I had to take pictures while they were working meaning that some of them were moving in the images and this caused a blur. This was a problem for me as I had to delete the pictures and it took a long time before I could get perfect ones.
